There is a lot of rave going on this year about ranking Michael Vick for fantasy football in 2011. Some people say he is number one overall. But other people claim they would never draft him. The question on a lot of fantasy football owners minds is should I draft Michael Vick? His points per game last season was amazing. He put up spectacular numbers in only twelve games last season. Sure that all sounds great but he is also known to be an extremely risky player. Throughout the rest of this article I am going to explain why Michael Vick is scary to own and scary to face in fantasy football.
Scary To Face
Michael Vick is definitely not the player that you want to see on the opposing team when you look at your fantasy match-up, unless its his bye week. Last season Michael Vick managed to put up 49 fantasy points in one game, week 10 against the Redskins. He has the ability to take over a football game, and also a fantasy football match. If you faced Vick in week 10 and won then you were one of the few. In only 12 games last season Vick scored 300 fantasy points. If Vick's stats were projected for 16 games he would have scored 400 points and lead all NFL players in fantasy points by 87 points which really is amazing. He managed to come in second behind Arian Foster anyway. Vick threw for 3,018 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He also ran for 676 yards and 9 touchdowns. To add to the threat Vick definitely does not lack weapons with DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin and Brent Celek to help him get the job done. This team is very fast and should put up a lot of points which will translate to a lot of fantasy points for Vick which is why you should consider drafting him in 2011.
Scary To Own
Before you jump the gun and draft Vick number one overall there are a few things that you should consider. Vick put up a lot of points early in the season, he was on pace to have more points than he did but he got injured in his fourth game, which was his third start. He then missed three games before coming back after the bye week. Injury concern is a huge thing that has to be taken into consideration when drafting Vick. If you are going to take Vick then you should have a solid back up just in case because his style of play makes him very vulnerable to injuries. As the season wears down he could have you 12-0 and set for the play-offs then he goes down in week 13 and your star fantasy player is no longer on your starting roster. That is the main worry that most fantasy owners have. Another worry about Vick is that at the end of the season he started to look more like a human. The blitz was really throwing him off. As teams keep experimenting with defensive strategy to deploy against Vick the strategy will improve and Vick's stats could decline. I'm not saying he is going to drop off the map or anything but I don't expect him to keep up his 300 fantasy points in 12 games rate like he did in 2010. I don't suggest that you jump on Vick too early but if he falls into the second round I have no problem with someone drafting him before Rodgers. Even though I wouldn't.
